Benefits of spending time outdoor
Spending
time outdoor is very beneficial for mental and physical health. It is no doubt
difficult for us to schedule a time for going out in the nature. But managing
time for this would be very rewarding. Some people like spending time inside, playing
video games and watching TV or movies. But time in nature is crucial for a positive
mind set and emotional balance. It can prepare you for work. Nature is a
medicine itself. So, you can get benefits from it and can enjoy your time as
well.
Let’s
consider few things that can change if we spend time outdoors.
1. Reduce depression and stress:
Rush hour is
very tough for all of us to make ends meet. All of us are working hard for a
better living. This struggle sometimes makes us so stressed and depress that
doing daily task seem difficult to us. This happens with everyone. We all are
part of a cycle that faces such situation many many times. This can hinder our
ability to learn new things and make us feel low about ourselves. Many studies
reveal that people who spend more time close to the nature are less likely to have
stress issues. Spending more time in nature helps us to release harmful
compounds from our bodies and reduce the stress.
2. Better breathing:
Modern
technology has made life much easier and fast but it also has bad impacts on
our environment. Automobiles had made air polluted. In many parts of the world
air pollution has raised to an alarming level. But we still can manage to enjoy
fresh air if we chose right time and spot. In the early morning air quality is
quite better. While out in the early morning breath deeply and this will surely
improve your lungs health. It can reduce the risk of respiratory disorders like
cough, asthma and so on.
3. Improves sleep:
Having a
full and sound sleep is very important for health. Healthy life style does not only
mean a balanced diet and doing exercise. It also includes proper rest. Like a
machine our bodies need proper rest. Otherwise like parts of a machinery our
bodies will worn out before time and this can lead to serious health issues.
Experts say that proper sleep is about 8 hours daily. No matter what your schedule
is, make sure to sleep at least 6 hours daily. This will also help to reduce
the stress and we will be healthy and can start fresh each day.
4. Motivation to Exercise:
Getting up
from your bed or chair or putting away your phone for the sake of exercise is
most difficult thing to do. Once you start doing that you actually start your
journey towards the success and fitness goals. Spending out door time can help in
this regard. If we are out door like in a park or in the woods we are motivated
to walk or run or do a quick game with friends and family. Or this can include just
walking around and admiring the nature.
5. Mental Health:
Mental health
is important like physical health. We often ignore our mental health even if we
follow all steps for good health – like daily workout routine and balanced diet
– but we forget to relax ourselves mentally and show less interest in doing
something about it. This results difficulty in taking decisions and mood swings
and behavioral problems. All this can have an impact on our personal life, family
life and our job. Working on our mental
health is crucial.
Never ignore the signs that indicate the need
to work on it. Taking a walk outside helps us to ponder on our daily routine
and decisions. We can admire little things and nature which can have a great
positive impact on out attitude and thus our mental health will improve.
Research shows that the animal sounds, wind sounds and other natural sounds are
related to lower stress level. This increase our joy and reduce even pain.
6. Boost immune functions:
Out door
time can affect our immune functions in a positive way. Working 9 to 5 for 5 or
more days a week and eating junk food is part of our daily routine. Researches say
that this reduce the functions of our immune system. We find it difficult to
cope with minor health issues on our own. We may need medical assistance for
all these things. But nature has made us in such a spectacular way that we can
cope with certain problems even without a medicine.
To make our
immune system strong we need to make sure that we are feeding our immune system
good food and allow it to refresh itself by spending time outdoors. This can boost
our ability to fight germs and illness. Fresh air and greenery can strengthen
our body and, in the process, our immune system got healthier and healthier. Like
a certain dose of beneficial bacteria, fresh air can reduce the stress on our digestive
system and relaxes us.
7. Time in sun boost Vit D level:
We all are
aware that vitamins are essential for us. We cannot make Vitamins in our body.
We have to eat foods that have vitamins or take supplements to fulfill the
need. But our skin can make Vitamin D in the Sun. Vitamin D is important for strong
bones and teeth. Not just that it can also help our muscles, nerves and immune
system.
50 % of the
people do not get enough sunshine to make vitamin D in the body. Our body can
not make Vit D when sunlight is filtered through the window. So, exposing our
skin to sunlight is very beneficial but remember to apply sun screen before you
are exposed to more UV rays as it can leads to skin problems and even skin cancer.
